🦠 Quarter Pounder Causes E. Coli Outbreak
McDonald's is in hot water with a deadly E. coli outbreak tied to its iconic Quarter Pounders, with at least 75 cases reported across 13 states. According to the CDC, with 26 cases, Colorado had the highest number of reported illnesses. At least 13 persons became ill in Montana, 11 in Nebraska, 5 in New Mexico and Utah, 4 in Missouri and Wyoming, 2 in Michigan, and 1 in Iowa, Kansas, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Washington.
The FDA suspects uncooked slivered onions on the burgers could be the culprit, though they’re still investigating. The outbreak has raised some spicy questions about food safety standards, and McDonald's is feeling the heat.
📉 Impact on McDonald’s
This burger drama is grilling McDonald's reputation and stock price, which slid 7% in pre-market trading. According to Statista, McDonald's revenue has steadily grown since 2020, with U.S. revenue rising from $9.42 billion in 2022 to $10.38 billion this year, making up a significant 41.24% of the company’s global revenue. Given that the U.S. market drives much of McDonald's overall growth, a health scandal here could lead to a greater loss than in any other country.
Scandals hurt stock fast, but here's the taste test: will it actually turn the consumers off fast food? Will a food safety issue change your McDonald’s habits? Join the conversation below ⬇️

📊 IMF Announced Global GDP Showdown: U.S. vs. Europe… and Watch Out for China!
The IMF (International Monetary Fund, not the Impossible Missions Force) announced last week that the gap between the U.S. and Europe's GDP growth rate continues to widen in favour of the U.S. What's GDP? Think of the gross domestic product like a country or region's financial report card. This means that over the next decade, the U.S. may outpace Europe in job creation, higher wages, and a stronger currency. Sacre bleu!
Don't start that acceptance speech just yet, America. Despite challenges to its economy, China is predicted to double the U.S. GDP growth by the end of 2025. That's a lot and dim sum!
UK Autumn Budget 💷: £58bn Investment – A Boon or a Burden?
The UK, now under the Labour Party, has just announced its autumn budget that will increase its government debt. Why is this important, even for non-Brits? Borrowing potentially an additional £58bn, the UK will invest in much needed public services in the hopes of bolstering growth. The minimum wage has increased, as well as capital gains tax rates and national insurance (NI) contributions. As tempting as it is for McD’s British staff to celebrate higher wages, how will companies take the news? For some, it may be easier to absorb the extra costs - wages, NI contributions, etc. While for others, those costs may impact the cost of global goods and services. It's estimated there will be a £100bn gap over the next five years between what the UK has promised and what it can afford. That's one tab you wouldn't want to pick up at the end of the night.
🚫 Say Goodbye to Disposable Vapes: UK’s Bold Ban to Protect Youth & Planet!
Starting June 1, 2025, England, Scotland, and Wales will implement a nationwide ban on disposable vapes, putting an end to these single-use gadgets in stores across the country.
The numbers tell a worrying story—around 8% of UK kids aged 11–17 were vaping in 2023. With flavors and designs appealing to younger audiences, these vapes have drawn concern for their role in fueling nicotine addiction among teens.
The environmental impact of disposable vapes is staggering. Nearly five million of these devices are thrown away each week in the UK, contributing to electronic and plastic waste that’s difficult to recycle. This ban aims to curb the growing mountain of vape waste polluting our planet. 🌍
