Most expensive paintings ever sold 🎨
How much are you willing to spend on a piece of art?
While most artists live modestly during their lifetime, their artworks sometimes command astronomical prices after their death. Let's take a look at the top 10 most expensive paintings sold at auctions. Salvator Mundi sold for a little over $450 million at a Christie’s auction in 2017 to an anonymous buyer. After the inflation adjustment, it reached $537 million.
Salvator Mundi, which translates to “Savior of the World,” is not only the world's most expensive painting—it's also one of the most controversial. Many scholars doubt that the work was entirely done by Leonardo da Vinci, as the overall composition doesn't completely align with da Vinci's style.
The largest art museum in the world
Many art museums also display countless priceless artworks.
By size, The Louvre in Paris, France, is the largest museum on Earth, with nearly 73,000 square meters of exhibition space. By reputation, it's also one of the best and holds works from antiquity to the 19th Century, including the world-famous and priceless Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa.
The Louvre’s artworks and objects have a likely MINIMUM value of $35 billion. To put this into perspective, it would take someone with a $10 million annual salary of 4,550 years to accumulate this wealth.
Best school to study art and design
Perhaps you also have a dream of becoming an artist. Let's take a look at which schools are best suited for studying art.
According to the QS 2023 rankings, the top two spots are dominated by schools in the United Kingdom, including the Royal College of Art and the University of the Arts London.
The Royal College of Art has produced many notable figures, such as James Dyson, the founder of Dyson, the renowned hairdryer company💇♀️; Jonathan Ive, the Chief Design Officer at Apple🍎; and acclaimed director Ridley Scott, known for iconic works such as Blade Runner and Hannibal.🎬
