With the 2023 season over (thankfully no more W14 😅) let’s take a look at the history of the sport, and also delve into some financials. We will be exploring the estimated revenue of all the current constructors on the grid, and then visualising who the most successful drivers and teams in history are.
Constructors estimated revenue
Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team (that’s a mouthful!) has the highest estimated revenue for 2023. This is despite the fact that they haven’t won a constructors championship for the last 2 years. Nevertheless, they still earn a lot of money from sponsors and this is no doubt due to the marketability of their popular driver Lewis Hamilton. Some of their biggest sponsors include Petronas and Ineos.

Most successful drivers
Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are tied for the most world driver championship titles at 7 each. Lewis’ first championship was won in 2008- only his second year as a Formula 1 driver with McLaren. His next 6 titles were all won with Mercedes. Michael Schumacher won 5 titles with Ferrari and 2 with Benetton. Just recently, Max Verstappen secured his 3rd WDC and he doesn’t look to be slowing down. Do you think he could ever match or even surpass the records of Hamilton and Schumacher?
Most successful constructors
The World Constructors Championship is based on how many points the team as a whole scores (so the combination of points from both their drivers). By quite a large margin, Ferrari is the most successful constructor in history with an impressive 16 championships. Their last title was won in 2008, 15 years ago! Do you think their next championship is coming soon, maybe with Charles Leclerc?
