What is generative AI?
Generative AI refers to the ability of machines to autonomously generate content, whether it be images, music, code, or even Wednesday editions of the Genuine Impact Newsletter ;)
Generative AI models are trained on large datasets, enabling them to generate original content in response to user inputs. The potential applications of generative AI are endless, and it’s no surprise that big tech companies are racing to become leaders in the field.
Big tech is spending big moneyÂ
Following the rapid adoption of OpenAI’s large language model ChatGPT, other big tech companies raced to follow suit by releasing their own equivalents. From Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing to Google’s Bard, and of course, the highly unpopular My AI from Snapchat.
Not yet to join the generative AI race is Apple. However, a flurry of AI-related job postings suggest that the company is investing big in the AI space.

Why is big tech so…big?
The majority of leaders in the AI space are household names - Microsoft, Google, Amazon and the like. So why do these companies have such a big slice of the AI pie?
For one thing, big tech companies have consistent and growing revenue streams, allowing them to invest profits into new endeavours such as AI. Furthermore, many of these companies already have an AI workforce, allowing them to capitalise on existing talent to innovate in the AI space.
Also, they have some pretty big computers.
Despite concerns over the lack of AI regulations (and the lengthy process it takes to enforce them), one thing is clear - AI is hotter than ever.
