In which states is Cannabis legal in the USA?
In 2013, Uruguay became the first country to legalise cannabis nationwide. However, various states across the USA have been legalising the drug for medical use since as early as 1996.
As you can see in the chart below, recreational cannabis is legal across the west and north-east coasts, whilst mainland USA is the least open to cannabis use.
We also take a look at the timeline of cannabis legalisation. It’s interesting to see how initially a few states legalised the drug for medical use, but in the last 10 years or so, adoption of the drug for both medical and recreational purposes has become much more common.
