The following 4 charts are why I love data viz: they turn complex data into a simple message.
China’s GDP is ‘just’ a Japan away from the US. South Korea is really impressive given how small the land size is. And I thought Russia would be much higher!
India will have more people than China very soon. Asia is home to the most population increase such as Indonesia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, besides India.
Where will we be in 2050? Nigeria is the fastest growing country, and so as are some other African countries such as Ethiopia and Egypt. China will be slightly down, and India will top the world.
What surprises me the most? Africa is much larger than it appears on a typical world map.
What companies stood to the test of time? Very few of them. Microsoft is an exception. US dominates. Japan lost. Europe is never at the party.
Adjusting inflation this time, also showing sectors. Tech and consumer-related businesses are two persistent sectors that produce the biggest companies.
Will we stop using oil and gas soon? Extremely unlikely. They are enjoying some of the best profit growth in the last year thanks to the higher oil prices.
See you Friday! 🙌
