Very surprising to see that increase in couples meeting via Bar/Restaurant! I'd really like to see a comparison from 2010 to the present instead of 1995 (pre-Internet). What's the short term trend of the past ten years? And split it out <30 vs >30.

Also what is the point of having a partner if you don't spend time with them? My partners have always been "glued" to me!

Hi John! The original report by Rosenfeld et. al contains a chart with greater granularity https://web.stanford.edu/~mrosenfe/Rosenfeld_et_al_Disintermediating_Friends.pdf (page 17). Unfortunately they haven't stratified by age but that would definitely be interesting to see.

Thank you. Interesting detail. This confirms my suspicion of the "meteoric" rise of meeting online! Our world has changed dramatically in my lifetime.

These statistics are probably severely warped by two years of lockdown, with few possibilties of 'natural" social interactions.

Hi Walter! The use of online dating apps did indeed increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, however the data we used in the first chart is up to 2017.
